Introduction


Google Analytics is a powerful tool that provides detailed insights into your website traffic, helping you understand user behavior and optimize performance. eDirectory comes with built-in Google Analytics integration, allowing you to connect your site effortlessly. To start using Google Analytics, you need to create an account and follow a few steps to set it up. This guide will walk you through the process.


Steps to Configure Google Analytics

1. Create a Google Analytics Account


2. Account Creation

  • Enter your Account Name.
  • Check the boxes under Account Data Sharing Settings (optional).
  • Click Next to proceed.
  •  

3. Property Creation

  • Fill out the required information:
  •  
    • Property Name
    • Country
    • Time Zone
    • Currency
  • Click on Next to continue.

4. Add Business Details

  • Choose your Business Category and Business Size.
  • Click Next.
  •  

5. Define Your Business Objectives

  • Select the objectives that best apply to your business.
  • Click on the Create button to finalize this step.
  •  

6. Accept the Terms of Service

  • Review and accept Google’s Terms of Service Agreement to proceed.
  •  

7. Set Up Data Collection

  • Select the option Web for data collection.
  •  
  • Enter your website details:
  •  
    • Website URL (e.g., www.test.com).
    • Stream Name (e.g., your site name).
  • Click Create Stream.



Important Note: Replace “test” with your site domain, ensuring the URL is in the proper format (e.g., www.test.com).

Additional Requirement: Ensure to have a live domain linked to your site before configuring Google Analytics in your site. 8. Copy Your Measurement ID

  • After creating the stream, a page will display your Analytics Configuration Details.
  • Locate the Measurement ID in the top right corner and click the icon to copy it. 

9. Configure Google Analytics in Your eDirectory Site

  1. Go to your Site Manager in eDirectory.
  2. Navigate to Configuration → Google Integrations.
  3. Select the Google Analytics tab.
  4. Paste the Tracking ID (Measurement ID) into the field.
  5. Choose the pages you want to be analyzed. 
  6. Click Save Changes.

Note on Compatibility:

  • Check if your site is compatible with Google Analytics 4.
  • If the placeholder code in the “Google Analytics Account” field starts with G- (e.g., G-123456789), your site supports Analytics 4, and you can proceed as described.
  • If the placeholder code starts with UA-, your site is not compatible with Analytics 4 by default.In this case, you will need to set up Analytics 4 using Google Tag Manager. Refer to the article: How to install Google Analytics 4 on Google Tag Manager.
