Introduction
Displaying Google Maps on your eDirectory website requires more than just obtaining an API key. To ensure that the maps function correctly, billing must be enabled for your Google Maps project. This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to activate billing for your Google Maps project, making your integration seamless and fully operational.
Step 1: Access the Google API Console
Begin by visiting the Google Cloud Platform's API Console and signing in using the same Google account you used to register for your API key. This ensures that all actions are performed on the correct account.
Step 2: Locate Your Project
Once signed in, locate the project associated with your eDirectory website. If you have multiple projects, double-check that you’ve selected the correct one to avoid enabling billing on the wrong project.
- Navigate to the Project Selector at the top of the page.
- Select the project where your Google Maps API key is registered.
Step 3: Open the Billing Section
With the correct project selected, follow these steps:
- Open the side menu by clicking on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
- Click on Billing to access the billing management section.
Step 4: Link a Billing Account
To activate billing, you need to link or create a billing account:
- Click on the “Link a Billing Account” button.
- If you already have a billing account, select it from the list and confirm.
- If you don’t have an existing account, you can create one by following the on-screen instructions to set up your payment information.
Step 5: Review and Finalize
After linking the billing account, review your project settings to confirm that billing is enabled. You can verify this in the Billing section of your Google API Console. Once enabled, your eDirectory website will have full access to Google Maps services, allowing maps to display correctly.
